Mesa Verde

Mesa Verde Cliff Dwelling

Mesa Verde is an absolutely amazing collection of thousands of fortified adobe/stone dwellings built right into the sheer cliffs and harsh canyons of southeastern Colorado. Apparently the native American tribes that built and inhabited these dwellings lived here from about 700 AD until sometime in the 1300AD century. The engineering and care they took to build these structures is truly amazing. We had to climb 35 foot ladders just to get up to the lowest floor of one of their dwellings and then had to traverse tunnels no wider than our shoulders and climb cliff-clinging 30-foot ladders hanging over 1000 foot sheer drops just to get out. It was totally creepy and exciting at the same time!
